From Austin Kleon:
The question every young writer asks is: “What should I write?”
And the cliched answer is: “Write what you know.”
This advice always leads to terrible stories in which nothing interesting happens.
The best advice is not to write what you know, it’s write what you like.
I’ve talked about working toward being who you want to be, rather than who you are before, but I really LOVE Austin’s take on the subject. To say I’ve been obsessed with this post since Erin Feldman shared it with me would be a gross understatement. There is so much truth and so much solid gold in Austin’s How To Steal Like An Artist post that all I want to say is this: do yourself a favor and go read it now and then go share it with literally everyone you know. Seriously… go… NOW!
And Austin, please… for the love of all things awesome, start selling this “Creativity Is Subtraction” print again… I need it.
