Set goals this year. The average New Years Resolution has been broken by the time the cleaning crews are finished with Time Square. Resolutions are usually the result of a look back where goals are the result of creating a plan for going forward. Just like so many others, I used to wake up on January 1st thinking I would eat better, work out more and probably learn a new language. This year, I am taking a few words of wisdom from Yogi Berra to help me reach some of my goals for 2009.
- “It’s like deja-vu, all over again” – Every year I throw myself at resolutions with gusto. I have always had the ability to start the year off with complete conviction. Sadly, I usually find myself resolutions falling off one at a time as the year gets busier. This year, I am trying to take a long term approach for success.
- “If you don’t know where you are going, you will end up somewhere else” – Every good plan has a roadmap. If you want to lose weight, you need to determine what will get you there and what you are likely to stick with.
- “It’s pretty far, but it doesn’t seem like it”
- “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”
This year, try something different set one or two reasonable goals and come up with a plan to get there.
